Metal Wound Gasket

Metal Wound Gasket
Details:
Metal Wound Gasket (also known as a Spiral Wound Gasket) is a semi‑metallic, high‑performance static sealing gasket widely used in flange connections for pressure vessels, pipes, pumps, valves and heat exchangers. It is constructed by spirally winding a thin V‑shaped metal strip with a soft filler material under controlled tension, forming a resilient, compressible sealing element. MOR metal wound gasket are widely used in Oil refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants Power generation (boilers, turbines, heat exchangers) Pipeline flange connections Valves, pumps and pressure vessels High-temperature and high-pressure piping systems

Metal winding strip: Typically stainless steel (304, 316L), carbon steel, Monel, Inconel, or Hastelloy. Provides structural strength, resilience and pressure resistance.

Filler material: Flexible graphite, PTFE, ceramic fiber, or mica. Delivers tight sealing, heat resistance and chemical compatibility.

Inner ring (centering ring): Reinforces the gasket and prevents inward buckling.

Outer ring (guide ring): Usually carbon steel or stainless steel, used for accurate centering and compression control.

Products Features

1. Core Structure

It adopts a strict alternating winding process, combining V/W-shaped thin steel strips (304, 316L, etc., optional) with industrial-grade fillers such as graphite and PTFE.

Steel strips provide strength and pressure resistance, while fillers ensure tight sealing.

CNC-controlled winding eliminates gaps and prevents leakage risks.

2. Extreme Resistance

High-temperature resistance: Up to 1000°C (material-dependent), suitable for boilers and high-temperature reactors.

High-pressure resistance: Up to 42MPa (ANSI Class 2500), applicable to oil drilling and high-pressure pipelines in chemical industry.

Low-temperature/vacuum resistance: Stable at -200°C (e.g., LNG storage), suitable for vacuum furnaces and similar scenarios.

Corrosion resistance: Customizable material combinations (e.g., 316L + PTFE for acid resistance) to handle various corrosive media.

3. Easier Installation & Maintenance

Equipped with built-in metal inner reinforcement rings + outer positioning rings to address common industry pain points.

Inner reinforcement rings prevent deformation; outer positioning rings facilitate accurate installation.

Reduces flange precision requirements-ordinary machined flanges (Ra 3.2μm) are sufficient, cutting costs.

4. Flange Compatibility

Flat Face (FF) flanges: Suitable for low-to-medium pressure scenarios, such as water pipelines and ordinary valves.

Raised Face (RF) flanges: Commonly used in oil and petrochemical industries; inner reinforcement rings fit the raised face to minimize leakage.

Ring Type Joint (RTJ) flanges: Custom versions for ultra-high pressure and temperature, complying with API 6A/ASME B16.5 standards.
